Croft Blue 5-2 Blunsdon 14/9/14

The boys kicked off their league campaign in perfect fashion with a 5-2 victory over Blunsdon Colts at Croft Sports Centre.

The first half display rivaled any of the football played in the 4 years under Joe, with the Blues simply tearing the opposition apart with a high tempo, high pressing game that eventually resulted in new signing Sayam Thapa scoring on his debut from outside the area. Callum Hooper then scored what is becoming his own trademark goal, sniffing out a rebound only a few yards from goal after Harry Woods’ free kick thumped the post. After Sayam added his second, Woods got in on the act himself, with a wonder 25 yard strike to leave the keeper helpless.

It’s fair to say that the boys took their foot off the gas second half, and despite captain Ben Rowlands scoring a 30 yarder into the top corner, the Blues got fairly sloppy and allowed two late goals for the visitors. Jack Saxby had the teams best chance of the second half, flashing a volley inches past the post.

All in all, a great start to a season that may promise lots from Joe, Reece and Gary’s side…
