Ferndale 3-1 Croft Blue 21/9/2014

A very disappointing game from Croft Blue, beaten by another one of the sides with ambitions of the league title this season in Ferndale.

Both sides started brightly, but it was the hosts who went ahead in extremely lucky circumstances. The ball came over the top of the defence, and with neither Tom Holland or Tyler Affleck sure on who’s ball it should be, it ended with vice captain Holland unfortunately knocking the ball past his own keeper. The blues nearly got back into in just as crazy circumstances, with Finn Tremblen out on the right touchline seeing the goalkeeper off of his line and unleashing a stunning lobbed attempt, only for it to hit the top of the bar.

The boys came out at the start of the second half, but soon were 2 down after a clever turn and finish from the Ferndale number 9. The blues finally got into the game when Tom Holland released Luca Colucci, back in the team after missing the opening day, and he made no mistake to set up an exciting last few minutes. But with the boys pushing forward to win the game, they were left exposed on the counter attack and eventually conceded the 3rd goal.

Not the best performance to say the least, but we’d rather get a poor display out of the way now than in March! Lots more games to come, we’ll regroup, and we’ll go again…
