Supermarine vs Croft Blue (Cup) 7/9/2014

The boys returned to action for the first time after a summer away, beginning their season in the preliminary round of the cup against division 1 Supermarine. With 5 players out, including capatain Ben Rowlands and usual striker Stan Banks, some may’ve thought the boys would struggle to get in the game at all.

However after only 3 minutes Luca Colucci burst through the home defence and chipped the out coming keeper to give the Blues a perfect start. The much fancied home side soon came back into the match however, scoring a fantastic free kick, and they would’ve felt rightly frustrated to be ahead at half time after a cominbation of plucky defending and stunning goalkeeping from Tyler Affleck, who made at least 4 top class saves.

The 2nd half began once again with the Blues on the front foot, and after Colucci missed a chance for his second, after a scramble, the ball eventually fell to last seasons player of the year, Harry Woods, and he slammed the ball into the top corner. The boys rightly thought it was going to be their day when Affleck was forced into making 2 saves from the penalty spot, but as Supermarine equalised and then got in front at 3-2, the boys tiredness began to show and they eventually lost the game 5-2.

Not the result we wanted to kick the season off, but with a hungry squad and an open league, the boys have taken more positives than negatives with this defeat and are now very much looking forward to the season ahead!
